In our Literature Circle groups, we went on a suffix search.  We found that sometimes, the last letter of the base word doubles.  We explored what happened to words when a suffix is added.

Please test out some of the words that you found.  Remember to start with a word sum and then follow the flow chart.  Write your word sum in the comment box (you can use the = sign for the rewritten as arrow).

beginning            dropped          whispered        disappointed
laughing              looked             swimming        kidding
runner                  hopping          looked

The students of 2J have been exploring how words are built.  We are discussing how base words, prefixes and suffixes work together.  We have used word sums and matrices to test our discoveries and to inquire about spelling and word families.
